What is Family of Brands?
For optimization of a product range of ConocoPhillips lubricants the majority of brands: Phillips 66, Conoco, 76 Lubricants have identical names and are united in Family of three Brands. Production of the fourth brand – Kendall does not enter in Family of Brands.
Phillips 66, Conoco, 76 trade marks are united in Family of Brands in a kind of identical structure, similarity of operational characteristics and for improvement of deliveries’ stability, improvement of production’ quality and optimization of warehousing.
All brands are equally priority for the ConocoPhillips Company and company does not allocate any exclusive or cheap brands from them, developing and improving quality of all oils and greasing, thus keeping history and achievements of each brand.

What are hydrocracked lubricants and their difference from synthetic oils?
Hydro cracking (hydro cleaning, hydroisomerization) is the technology which helps molecules of crude oil to transform chemically into demanded components of base lubricants of unsurpassed quality. This crude oil becomes clear from all polluting substances for manufacturing of base oil, free from impurity. Base oil is so pure that looks transparent, as water. The excellent base component is solving for characteristics of any lubricants as it is one of the basic components of oil, the others thus are additives. Molecules of paraffin hydrocarbons are reconstructed to be corresponded to “an ideal molecule” oils. ConocoPhillips Company is the pioneer in manufacturing of full assortment of lubricants, made of hydrocracked base oils.
Base oils can also be received other way: the oil molecule can “be constructed of bricks-monomers”. In this case basis components for manufacturing of synthetic and semi synthetic oil are polyalphaolefins, polyglycols or diesters.
Distinctive feature of ConocoPhillips lubricants is the technology of manufacturing of the base oil. Conoco Phillips lubricants are manufacturing uses technology of full hydro cracking while the majority of other lubricants manufacturers use the technology of selective clearing (clearing by solvents).
The hydro cracking technology provides to oils following advantages:
- Reduction of the expense of oil because of low evaporation;
- Easier start-up and a gear change in a cold season;
- The best protection against wear helps to prolong life of the main parts, such as sleeves and rings of cylinders, cranks and bearings;
- Exclusive cleanliness of the engine, as a consequence of keeping of polluting particles in a suspension during all period of work of the engine;
- Longer intervals between the oil replacements, allowing saving time and expenses on maintenance service.Any of the Russian lubricant companies does not use the hydro cracking technology yet.

Where Conoco Phillips oils and greasing are manufactured?
Conoco Phillips is the largest American oil company with the turnover of 231 billion dollars in 2008. Conoco Phillips is one of world leaders in manufacturing of lubricants. The Company has invested 40 million dollars during last 3 years In development and patenting of the newest kinds of lube-oils. The Conoco Phillips lubricants are manufactured only in the USA at 17 factories belonging to the company. ConocoPhillips Company makes more than 800 kinds of lube-oils.
Oils of ConocoPhillips are certificated almost for any cars and mechanisms. These oils are used by such companies as: Ford, General Motors, a Chrysler, Caterpillar, Komatsu, Liebherr, Cummins, Detroit Diesel, Volvo and many others. The largest Conoco Philips’s client is Ford. The Conoco Phillips oils are the first pouring oils in all cars of the Ford and General Motors companies. The company’s production is on sale in 80 countries of the world and thanks to the high quality has admissions and recommendations to application from leading world manufacturers of ethnics and the equipment: Caterpillar, Komatsu, Jon Deer, Liebherr, Mack, Man, Volvo, a Mercedes etc.
ConocoPhillips Company is the big player in the oil market of Russia. But the company is divided on two almost independent parts – “Extraction” and “products”. “The extraction” division is presented in the Russian market already for a long time (Conoco Phillips’s Russian representation is a part of “extraction” division). The “Products” division are (having a dealer network absolutely independent of division “extraction”), actually only starts to enter on the Russian market.

Might the various oils be mixed?
At first sight it is possible to think that at mixture of oils of the same category of quality (for example, API CI-4/SL with API CI-4/SL) oil of the same category will turn out. Actually there is no data which reliably would confirm it.
Incompatibility of engine oils can be shown or in loss of additives, or in essential change of the basic properties of oil. Both can lead to undesirable consequences for the engine. There are laboratory methods for checking of compatibility of the additives containing in various oils. But it is not obviously possible to check up all possible combinations of known additives. It is impossible to conduct high-grade motor tests to check up quality of the final mix too. And it can be lower, than worst of components.
Transition from one mark of oil on another does not represent a problem. Nevertheless, before pouring of new oil it is desirable to wash out the engine.
It is necessary to know that after replacement of one lubricant with another the engine and oil pass through the adaptation period. Outwardly it can be expressed, in particular, in the raised expense of oil and leak through consolidations. If quality of oil corresponds to conditions of its work adaptation process occurs quickly enough and imperceptibly.

How often should motor oil be changed?
Oil should be changed in accordance with the vehicle operating instruction. The manufacturer of the engine is the one to determine when to change the oil. Usually the manufacturers’ judgment is based on the lowest acceptable oil quality. As a rule, a certain mileage or timeframe is required to expire. In adverse conditions (the list of such can be found in the instruction) oil should be changed more often. Unfortunately, conditions in Russia are usually adverse.

Why do oils darken quickly?
To start with, while the engine is working, it collects the products of partial fuel combustion, or, soot. With low fuel quality and high fuel consumption the operating conditions of the engine worsen, and more soot amasses. Moreover, motor oils, regardless of their highest quality, cannot completely sustain high temperatures in the engine. Thus, the oil partially oxidizes and decomposes. The products of decomposition are dark, resinous substances. Good oil helps keep the products of decomposition and oxidation, as well as soot, at a designated volume. It also keeps the inner surfaces of the engine clean, protesting them from deposition of laquer and scale. This happens because good oil contains the so-called effective dispersant additives.
